Secure, versatile, one gateway for 40+ countries: why Sithimy chose Stripe
Selling worldwide comes with a detail most people overlook: the products are the same everywhere, but the way people pay is different in every country. Shoppers in the US open a wallet on their phone and touch a fingerprint. Shoppers in Germany would rather have the money taken straight from their bank account. Shoppers in the Netherlands look for the local bank they already use. Shoppers in Japan want to see the card option they have always trusted.
Meeting all of those habits without turning the checkout page into a cluttered mess — that is the real problem.
Sithimy solves it with a single choice: Stripe. One payment gateway covering all 40+ countries we ship to, doing three things at once:
Secure — card details never sit with the store, and every transaction is watched by a global fraud-prevention system.
Versatile — international cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, SEPA, local bank transfers, buy now pay later… all in the same checkout page.
Enough for both sides — buyers anywhere find a way to pay that feels familiar, while the seller runs one system instead of dozens.
1. Buyers and sellers, the same problem
An order abandoned at checkout is rarely about the price. It is usually something much smaller:
- Not seeing the payment method you use every day.
- A price shown in an unfamiliar currency, so you have to reach for a calculator.
- A screen full of a foreign language, and you do not feel safe typing your card number into it.
- Your bank blocking the transaction because it looks "unusual".
For the buyer, each of those is a reason to give up and shop somewhere else. For the seller, it is revenue lost without ever knowing why — the customer simply closes the page, and nobody writes in to explain.
The two sides look different, but they need exactly the same thing: a checkout that is easy for the customer and simple for the store. Stripe was chosen because it solves both at once — and the rest of this article walks through each one.
2. One checkout page, every way to pay
This is where the word versatile shows most clearly: that single checkout page serves buyers in more than 40 countries, with every kind of habit between them — and none of them ever has to see the complexity behind it.
Here is something worth noticing: open Sithimy's checkout page in the United States, and open the same page in the Netherlands, and the two of you will not see the same thing.
That is deliberate. Sithimy recognises where you are, whether you are on a phone or a computer, and which currency you are buying in — then shows only the payment options you can actually use. You never have to scroll past a long list of unfamiliar names to find the one you recognise.
Depending on where you are, that list might include:
| How you pay | What that means | Common in |
|---|---|---|
| International cards | Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, Discover, UnionPay | Worldwide |
| Digital wallets | Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link | US, Europe, Australia, Japan… |
| Straight from your bank account | SEPA | 36 European countries |
| A transfer through your usual local bank | iDEAL, Bancontact, BLIK, P24 | Netherlands, Belgium, Poland… |
| Buy now, pay later | Klarna, Afterpay | US, Europe, UK, Australia |
Not every customer sees all of them — and that is exactly the point: each person only sees the part meant for them. There is another convenience too. When a new way of paying catches on in your country, Sithimy can add it without you doing anything; the next time you shop, it is already there.
Apple Pay and Google Pay: one tap and you are done
If your card is already saved in the wallet on your phone, buying comes down to a single action. No typing a card number, no re-entering your address, no waiting for a text message code. You look at the screen or touch the fingerprint sensor to confirm — the card details and delivery address stored in your wallet fill themselves in.
It is the fastest way to buy, especially when you are out and all you have is your phone. And you can tap with confidence: even if the screen goes dark right after you confirm, your order is still recorded in full.
SEPA: the familiar choice for European customers
Customers in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and many other European countries often prefer having the money taken directly from their bank account rather than using a credit card — all it takes is an account number, no card needed. Sithimy supports this from the start, so if you are in that region you can shop the way you always do, instead of adapting just because you happen to be buying from a foreign store.
What is worth noting is that every one of these options comes from a single payment gateway. Sithimy does not have to stitch together a different provider for each country, and you never have to relearn how to pay when you switch methods. It is also why, when we start selling into a new country, the first things to sort out are stock and shipping — not working out how that country pays.
3. Your language, your currency
There is a particular kind of frustration in buying from abroad: you go through the whole journey choosing items in your own language, and then, at the moment you pay, the screen switches to something unfamiliar — with a number in a foreign currency you have to work out in your head.
At Sithimy, checkout speaks the same language you have been reading — English, Spanish, French, Hindi or Arabic. Every label on every field, every prompt when you mistype something, appears in that language.
And more importantly: you pay in your own country's currency.
Sithimy recognises where you want your order delivered, then shows the amount in the currency people actually use there. Customers in the UK see British pounds, customers in Japan see yen, customers in Canada see Canadian dollars. No mental exchange-rate maths, no guessing what your bank will end up charging you.
Three things you gain from this:
- No surprise currency fees. Paying in your own currency means your bank has nothing to convert, so there is no foreign-exchange charge quietly added to your statement at the end of the month.
- Fewer declines from your bank. A transaction in the currency you spend every day looks ordinary to your bank, so it is far less likely to be blocked by mistake.
- The price you see is the price you pay. The number in front of you when you confirm is the number on your invoice and your confirmation email. Whatever the market rate does tomorrow, your order does not change.
In short: whether you order from Paris, Tokyo, Dubai or Toronto, checkout feels like a shop in your own country.
4. Security comes first
Typing your card number into a website in another country is always the moment buyers hesitate. It is the part Sithimy takes most seriously, and the single biggest reason Stripe was chosen over a cheaper payment gateway.
Sithimy never holds your card details. When you type your card number, it goes straight to Stripe — one of the largest payment companies in the world, handling transactions for millions of businesses — rather than stopping at the store's systems. The store only receives the result, "payment successful", and never sees your card number. Which means there is nowhere at Sithimy for card data to leak from.
Every transaction is watched. Stripe runs a fraud-prevention system called Radar that works automatically on every order. Its strength comes from scale: Radar watches the flow of transactions across a global network, so if a card has just been used fraudulently at some shop on the other side of the world, it is already flagged before it ever reaches Sithimy.
This protects both sides. The real cardholder does not have to discover a strange charge after the fact. And honest customers can shop as normal, because Radar is sharp enough to tell a suspicious transaction from a regular customer buying a gift for family overseas.
You are only asked for more when it is genuinely needed. Sometimes you will be asked to confirm one extra step — a code from your bank sent to your phone, or an approval inside your banking app. This does not appear on every order, only when the law in your country requires it or when a transaction shows signs worth a closer look. The aim is to protect you without turning shopping into paperwork.
If something goes wrong, there is always a way back. Every transaction has a clear history, and refunds or disputes follow Stripe's standard process — the same in every country, whether you paid by card, by Apple Pay or from your bank account.
And for anyone who wants a concrete benchmark: Stripe holds PCI DSS Level 1 security certification — the highest level the card payment industry defines.
One more thing worth saying plainly: this protection covers both sides. Buyers do not have to worry about losing money or exposing their card details. And the seller is not left carrying fraudulent orders discovered only after they have shipped, nor having to build and maintain a fraud-prevention system alone — something no single shop could manage at a global scale.
5. Your order does not get lost
Anyone who shops online has had that sinking moment: you tap pay and the connection drops, or a call comes through, or you accidentally close the tab. Then you sit there wondering — has the money gone? Was the order recorded? Did I just order twice?
Sithimy is built so you never have to ask.
Your order is recorded the moment you start paying, not only at the final step. So if something goes wrong midway — you lose signal, close the browser, switch to another app and come back — your order is still there, with all the items, the delivery address and the amount, and it completes itself once your bank confirms the transaction.
You will never be charged twice for the same order. The system recognises an order it has already handled, so even if the browser sends it twice or you tap the pay button again, the result is still one order and one confirmation email.
And every way of paying is treated the same. Card, Apple Pay, bank account, or a transfer confirmed manually by our staff — from that point on, every order follows exactly the same path: stock is set aside, a confirmation email goes out, and the order moves on to packing and handover to DHL. You never end up in a situation where one payment method moves quickly and another gets stuck.
As soon as you have paid, a confirmation email arrives — in the same language you shopped in, with a link to look up your order any time. From there, all you have to do is wait for it to arrive.
6. Behind the counter: why one gateway beats a dozen
Everything above is what customers feel. But choosing Stripe also solves the other half of the problem — the seller's half, which loops back around and affects customers anyway.
If every country needed its own payment provider, the store would end up here:
| What has to be done | A separate gateway per country | One Stripe gateway |
|---|---|---|
| Tracking money coming in | Several statements, several payout cycles, different fees everywhere | One place, one flow of money |
| Fraud prevention | A different tool in each place, none of them seeing the whole picture | One watchdog covering every order |
| Refunds and disputes | A different process per provider, and customers waiting longer | One consistent process, handled quickly |
| Selling into a new country | Negotiating, signing, setting everything up from scratch | Turning on the options that suit that country |
| Reconciling the books | Stitched together by hand, easy to get wrong | Tidy, and searchable straight away |
The difference is not only saved effort. A store chasing ten disconnected systems is slower at everything — slower to refund customers, slower to spot unusual orders, slower to open new markets. When it all runs through one place, that time and energy goes back where it belongs: products, prices and delivery speed.
Put another way, a payment setup that is simple for the seller ends up being a smoother experience for the buyer.
7. Two sides, one promise
Everything above comes down to something quite short.
For buyers, anywhere across 40+ countries
- A checkout page in your own language.
- Prices in the currency you spend every day.
- All the ways to pay you already use — and none of the confusing extras.
- On a phone: one button, one fingerprint, done.
- Card details protected to the highest standard, with a watchdog making sure you do not lose money.
- A confirmation email straight away, with a link to track your order any time.
For Sithimy, behind the counter
- One system to run, instead of dozens of disconnected ones.
- One place to track money and reconcile the books.
- One shared layer of fraud prevention, stronger than anything a single shop could build.
- Opening a new country without rebuilding everything from scratch.
That is what a good payment system looks like: customers never have to think about it, and the store never has to struggle with it.
In closing
For a store shipping to more than 40 countries, payment is not a small detail at the end of the journey. It is the deciding moment: all the work on products, pricing and delivery either reaches the finish line, or stops right there.
Stripe gives Sithimy the three things that matter most:
Secure — card details never stored at the store, the industry's highest security standard, and a global fraud-prevention system protecting buyer and seller alike.
Versatile — international cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, SEPA, local banks, buy now pay later… all in one checkout page, showing each customer exactly what they can use.
Enough for both sides — buyers anywhere pay the way they are used to, in their own language and currency; and the store runs a single system.
One payment gateway. More than forty countries.
Nobody has to trade anything away.
